                 Updated 3-26-2012

Endeavor and Challenger 3rd and 4th graders: will be participating in "Kent Steps Up" starting after spring break.  The Kent County health department is giving these students pedometers to track their steps for 4 weeks and earn incentives for reaching goals.  This a great opportunity for our students to use technology while becoming aware of their activity level.

Jump Rope for Heart: was Saturday, February 25th.  Thank you to the 44 students who bought t-shirts for the American Heart Association!  Endeavor raised $485 of $6,140.
And a big thank you to the students who showed up to jump:
Kourtney, Annaliese, Dexter, McKenna, Maya, Kelli, Alekya, Molly, Arthur, Lily, Timothy, Madison, Jasmyn, Alana, Annie, Medina, Stephanie, Christina, Naomi, Vicky, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Mallory, Wyatt, Kelsey, Ana, Hayden, Mikaila, and Tajhana!

Endeavor families:  Mileage Club will start back up Tuesday, April 10.  It is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  Any child may participate.  It is last recess from 215-235. In that allotted time, your child can run or walk as many 1/4 mile laps as they can.  After each lap your child will get a punch on his/her card.  Once your child has finished a card, which is equivalent to 5 miles, they earn a toe token on a shoelace necklace.  Then they start a new card and keep going and keep earning prizes.  We will end the club around Thanksgiving in the fall/ before Memorial day in the spring.  We start the club back up once the snow has melted after spring break in April.  Your child will start on the card they left off on.  If your child completes 5 miles (1 card) at any point during the club they will earn free entry to the 5/3 Jr. Race in May.  At the end of club your child will earn a certificate with their total mileage for the year.  We have had many students walk/run up to 50 miles throughout the year.  I would also appreciate any adult help during mileage club last recess to punch mileage club cards.  Students are responsible for their cards and we will not replace lost cards.  More information is available under "events."  If your child is having behavioral issues at school, mileage club is a great way to keep them out of trouble.  They are working off energy and are focused on a goal.

Challenger families: YEAH!  This is the first year Challenger will be participating in mileage club!  Mrs. Wright (5th grade teacher) and myself will be running the club at least 2-3 days per week.  More information to come.

Please check what day your child has gym this year under "schedule and rules."  Your child will need appropriate shoes on this day, no flip flops, crocs, ballet flats, etc.  They may also bring a water bottle, no sticky sports drinks.  It is also helpful if you have a daughter to have her wear appropriate clothing on gym day, no skirts or dresses.  I do allow spaghetti strap and "beater" tanks in class but an over shirt must be put back on before they enter the hallway.
